Learn German

the adventure of your life

The two-week German Language Summer Programs take place in Obertauern, which is situated 1,600 m above sea level, surrounded by the mountains of the Salzburger Land. The best way to explore them is by hiking. Take one of the many cable cars for the first part of the ascent and enjoy the panorama of the Alps on the way.
That’ll give you a lot to put on your Instagram account. In the crisp and clean alpine air learning German works particularly well at the Goethe-Institut youth summer camp.

The language camp participants in the mountains around Salzburg will be in one of the most beautiful surroundings that Austria has to offer, and that means something. Many of the 3- or 4-bed rooms with shower and bathroom, in which the students are living for two weeks, have a wonderful view from their window onto the Alpine summits.

The language camp participants are offered many leisure and sports activities, whether in the beautiful landscape around us or directly at our youth hotel. Of course, they have to complete their German lessons first, which consist of two blocks of lessons in the morning and three to four times a week one block in the afternoon. Between two teaching blocks, there are breaks with refreshments and drinks, and at lunchtime, we eat together in the beautiful dining room of our youth-friendly accommodation. As with breakfast and dinner, there will always be a vegetarian option.

On weekends and after classes, the students can enjoy their free time, whether on the soccer field right in front of the hotel, the beach volleyball court, the trampoline facility or, during a spell of rain, in the sports hall. Two multimedia cinemas and a fully equipped disco ensure an exciting evening program. We also offer guided hiking tours in this beautiful environment, because alpine meadows, clear mountain lakes and peaks up to 3000 meters want to be discovered.

City trip and alpine adventure

In order to give our language camp participants the opportunity to use their new German language skills, we make field trips, for example to Salzburg. The historic city center has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1996. A stroll through the alleys and small market places conveys a feeling for the life of the people during the baroque and rococo period. This is the time and the place where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born, a fact that Salzburg is visibly proud of. The Hohensalzburg Fortress is one of the largest castle complexes in Europe and worth an extended visit.

The magnificent Hellbrunn Palace with its famous trick fountains is also a great place to visit. But the language summer camp students will also have a lot of fun in the immediate vicinity of Obertauern, like the high ropes course or with the cows on the mountain pastures.

We reserve the right to organise day trips close to nature in case of high incidence values and possible endangerment of our conservation concept.

Highlights:

  • Adventure Hike

Obertauern offers a very special experience of high mountains. With good air and its altitude, it is also suitable if you suffer from allergies.

  • City Trip Salzburg

The city is not only known for its famous composer but also for the mighty fortress as well its beautiful old town.

  • High-ropes Course

Here you can climb to lofty heights. Secured and wearing a helmet, wobbly boards or narrow tree trunks are crossed. A real thrill!
